It’s that time of year again! The third annual Geekend conference is in full swing in Savannah and folks from across the globe are here to get geeky.
In typical Geekend fashion we kicked off Day 1 with a bang. The Coastal Georgia Center was appropriately outfitted with Geekend geek-bots, PBR swag and free beer and wine as we gathered for the opening night reception. A big thanks to PBR for sponsoring!
After mingling over frothy brewskies we gathered ’round to watch a goofy bike race commence. Some cheering spectators ended up with a compromised vocal volume, but hey. Small price to pay.
And then, of course, our opening keynote from Cristen Conger and Jonathan Strickland of HowStuffWorks brought to light how to turn passions into podcasts. Some really cool stuff! We even have artists in the house to illustrate visual notes from the keynote talks.
As for a recap of all that went on, Twitter always says it best. Here is a taste of some tweets that were tossed about:
@OMGLX: Hey @geekend2011! @jobrodesign @JustinFielder & myself put together something tweetgrindr.com

The day came to a close with the premier afterparty of the Geekend. We geeks met at Rancho Alegre to mix, mingle, eat, drink and be merry. And so it began! Here’s to Day 2!
