Day 01: Friday, January 27th

Get ready to rumble! It's the first day of sessions and workshops. So come ready to learn, share and meet some seriously cool geeks. We hope you are as excited about getting your geek-on as we are and we can't wait to meet each and every one of you! Today's sessions occur at The Guild Hall (615 Montgomery Street).

What if we no longer had to launch (and sometimes lose) delicate systems from the planet’s surface, but could build them in the sky? Made In Space was founded in 2010 with the goal of building the tools for an interplanetary reality. It develops space-based manufacturing technologies that harness the unique qualities of the space environment to unlock designs and materials that before were impossible.

Join Spencer to hear about how organizations can set themselves up to be creative and innovative across all functions in order to unlock world changing designs.

Description: Innovative engineering requires cross-disciplinary collaboration.  But what does this really mean, and why it is more important today than ever before?  In a time of increasing specialization, intellectual and technical silos inhibit the spread of useful ideas and may threaten the development of impactful technology. There is tremendous potential for innovation, however, that is lurking at the intersections of traditional intellectual domains, from nuclear reactors to data science.  Furthermore, framing technical innovation in terms of our ability to identify and leverage cross-disciplinary ideas should impact the way we look at education, career development and knowledge sharing in the STEM fields.

The tech industry has been and continues to bring incredible innovation to mainstream society. It has changed the way we view our news, listen to our music, collaborate with each other around the global and changed our basic lifestyle to include much of social media. But where the tech industry thrives, the lack of representation of women and underrepresented minorities has been evident. Why?

Javascript Frameworks are all the rage these days.  It seems like there is always a newer, better framework and its dizzying to keep up with all of the updates.  Join this panel of experienced front end developers that will debate the pros and cons of Angular.JS, Node.JS, React.JS, Meteor as well as the merits of not using any of them.  Panel members will also answer questions from the audience on which framework might be the best fit for your projects.

This event wouldn’t be possible without help from all our friends
